In an effort to save money (smile), I have decided to do my own flowers. To avoid having chaos on my wedding day, how far in advance can I make my bouquets and centerpieces? Has anyone else here done their own flowers? How did it turn out?

Hi there i am also my making my own bouquets for my wedding. i am usisng fake flowers but since you are using real ones i would say the day before you wedding would be good. make sure to leave them in the fridge or something so they don’t go bad. as for the centerpieces are you are using flowers if so how many are your doing? you could do them the day before the wedding or a couple of days before its up to you good luck.
I had a pretty Vase and a single Rose on every Table.
I find the spending on Weddings today outrages. All too many
Brides are still paying for a Wedding long after they divorced.
If you make the arrangements yourself, I suggest doing so the day before. You never know how fresh the flowers are and you will want them to be looking nice.

Real flowers need to be arranged the day of and kept refrigerated otherwise they will die.
In-advance only would work if using faux flowers

I made all the flower arrangements for a friends wedding. We used silk flowers. I started them 2 weeks before the wedding, but that was rushed. They turned our great!
I am making all of the flowers (bouquets, centerpieces, etc.) for my wedding using silk flowers. I have started them now so that I can take my time and get them just right (wedding is in August).
If you are using real flowers, then I would suggest starting them no sooner than a few days before the wedding and keep them refrigerated.
if you are using real flowers then the day before. keep it simple and any flowers that are in vases put lemonade in the water, makes them last longer.
Because you have so little time with real flowers (they have to be used day-of), have you considered other alternatives?
Not only are there traditional fake flowers (made of silk, polyester, or plastic), but you could consider origami flowers. I also once saw a bride who made her “bouquet” (if you can call it that) out of Christmas tree bulbs (the ornaments, not the lights). It was really pretty because they were so sleek, shiny, and unusual.
Perhaps you should look into finding another decoration to use besides flowers.
I can make anything and did but flowers is the one thing I spend the money on. Real flower look the best- sorry but silk and fake flowers are TACKY and look terrible in Professional pictures. I would spring for the florist and keep it simple with roses.
My friend did her own flowers and due the fact she didn’t have proper refrigeration, all the flowers died- it was horrible. In a panic we made cheap bouquets from the supermarket.
I’m using silks and making everything myself. Silks are somewhat cheaper than real flowers. Real flowers need to be done either the day before or the day of. It usually is better to have a florist do your boquets, corsages and bouts as well as your center pieces. I’m doing 2 bouquets, 6 bouts, 5 corsages and 4 aisle markers and it only cost $101 (not including supplies). If you want to do silk, try afloral.com.

I did my own bouquets. I used artificial flowers. If you use fresh they should be done the day of the wedding and with hair and makeup and everything else I didn’t feel I’d have enough time to mess with flowers. They looked real. Don’t buy cheapy ones. Go to Michael’s or somewhere that specializes in artificial flowers. Michael’s usually has a coupon in their flyer that can save you some cash.
I went to Michales and bought fake flowers so I dong have to worry about they dying, and they are much eaiser to work with. for the Bouques I will buy real ones and probably make them 2-3 days before the wedding.
I did my own flowers and used silk. I did them months in advance and they looked great on the wedding day. By using silks, I was able to spread the flower cost over several months and catch sales at Michael’s and Hobby Lobby. It was much cheaper to use silk flowers too. I did my cascading bouquet, 3 bridesmaids, 5 corsages, 6 bouts, 32 pew bows, the head table arrangement, the card table arrangement and the throwaway bouquet for around $100.
I wouldn’t listen to anyone that says silks are tacky or look bad in pictures. if you want to see how my fake flowers looked in the pictures, let me know.
If you have a refrigerator to keep them in, you can make them up to 5 days ahead of time. Just make sure you spritz them a couple of times a day with water and keep them in a refrigerator. The only flowers you wouldn’t want to spritz are gardenias. Those you want to add the day before or morning of because they are so fragile and the petals turn brown very easily.

If you use silk flowers, you can do them as far ahead as you want to. I used silk and the girl who arranged them for me did them several weeks ahead of the wedding. I had a lot of compliments on my flowers and most people thought they were real. I paid about $50 for them and she arranged for free. (bouquets, corsages, boutonnieres, and arrangements for the cake table) I even used some of the smaller ones in the headband for the flower girl and on my hair clip.
I ordered sillk flower bouquets 6 months in advance that were already made and they were gorgeous!
