Home Depot and Lowes seem to have the market on lock as far as home improvement…..the only other store that comes to mind is True Value Hardware….I dont know if its local or if they have stores where you live…..visit their website at

There are a number of regional and one-off places. Menard’s is another big box in the upper Midwest. 84 Lumber is a lumber and building supply place HQ in western PA, and there are local examples of Ace, Trustworthy, True Value, and Do-It Best with small and large stores. I’ve lost track of others such as Furrow, HQ, Builder’s Square, etc. that may have gone under in the last 10 years, or just pulled out of my local market.

Dig out the phone book or go online and search the yellow pages for lumber and home supplies. I remember Churches Lumber, Lumber Jacks, but there are many Ma&Pa places left.
