We are planning on remodling the garage and removing the door to replace with windows ourselves, however, I am finding it difficlut to locate all information on how to do it, permits and inspections required etc. I have done some research online, however, I am coming up empty handed. We live in CT. Can anyone get me into the right direction?

Your local ” Building Safety” Dept for all the required codes/permits. You have to submit a set of plans to get the permit.
There will be Structural, Electrical, Plumbing/HVAC permits and inspections involved so review the applicable codes and inspection itinerary.
They may also require Zoning permit and review.
The building department is going to be your best bet. they are familiar with all of the local building codes, which at times can augment even the UBC (Universal Building Codes.)
A few things you might consider before taking on the project are the floor leveling process and access doors directly outside to the bedroom, and whether or not you are ever going to sell the house. If you sell the house, houses without garages (in some places) do not sell as well as houses without garages. If you level the floor, that is a permanent change, and if a family were to buy your home, they would have a lot to do in order to put the garage back in.
