   Although the home improvement centers, such as Lowes and Home Depot are going to be more competitively priced you need to know that they do not do any of their own repair work. Your best bet is to purchase an appliance from an actual dealer AND repairman. What you run into when you purchase from one place and repair at another is the hassle of trying to find someone who will service it ESPECIALLY if it is still under warranty. For instance, Home Depot sells appliances but there is no one in house to do the service work. This means you have to call the 1-800 number and find out where the closest servicer for that brand is and who will accept to do the service. This is a huge pain and you won’t know about the hassle unless you ask…I would recommend buying from a local, reputable company. You may pay a little more in the end but there will be more peace of mind.

   FYI-Check out consumer reports for reputable models and reference the internet. I know Whirlpool was a leading brand for economical and higher end washers and dryers at one time. I know also that Maytag has gone downhill the past 5 years and their quality has suffered.

   According to Consumer Reports, Sears Kenmore appliances have the most satisfied customers. There are appliances with a higher price tag that were not as highly rated, meaning customers were not satisfied. Sears also has a service department if and when your appliance needs servicing. I personally have had a home for 26 years and tried many different brands over the years. I do believe that Kenmore has the most bang for the buck. If you have old appliances that you want to get rid of, they give you that option also. Good luck
